Do note: This hack will work for almost any fountain pen with an ebonite feed, friction-fit into the section. (Like the Noodler’s Ahab or Konrad, for example.) If we’re talking experience from innocent bystander to supreme boss ninja, this hack is serious apprentice level. Enthusiastic beginner? Please have a spare pen. Why do this hack …
I miss a year or two, but it never fails to surprise me that there are more than enough new pens in a year for me to be able to pick ten. My shock, your gain. 😉 Presented, not in any strict order: (Fine, there’s probably some kind of subconscious preference revealing itself…) 10. …
When a market is diversifying, it’s thriving. On that basis, 2015 was a healthy year for pen addicts everywhere – an especially happy observation to make in the fountain pen segment, which is almost two centuries old. The Year of Personalization Bespoke bodies and custom nibs have been around a while, but personalization was truly the …
This year, I went to my first ever pen show. And my second ever pen show. I missed what could have been my third ever pen show by a couple of weeks, but friends made sure I didn’t miss it too much. 🙂 (Is this the coolest postcard ever or what?)
Think about the most beautiful object you own. It could be a leather bag scuffed with memories of adventures; an Egon Schiele print hanging in the hallway; your first child’s first tooth; an Art Deco masterpiece cast in bronze; a rare bonsai. It could also be a book; a watch demonstrating the laws of physics; …
(As I note below – these mixes work best with dip pens and in eyedroppers with non-finned feeds. If this isn’t your first rodeo, go ahead and use the mixes in whichever pen you like, as long as you can disassemble and clean and reassemble afterward. Play with care. 🙂 ) J. Herbin, now look …
It’s a delight to see the custom pen market growing with the demand for non-disposable writing instruments. My first bespoke pen, a Shinobi from Shawn Newton, is a wonderful workhorse. My second bespoke pen is by Yoshi Nakama, who did fabrication for conceptual artist Sol LeWitt for almost three decades. His background in materials is impressive. …
Elastic nibs were around before Nakaya had them. Many steel dip pen nibs came with shoulder cutouts or slits. Esterbrook even had a double elastic (cutouts AND slits!) on offer. MacNiven and Cameron released their last Waverly pen in the 1950s, an eyedropper meant to remove the hassle of disintegrating rubber sacs in tropical countries. …
It was the Model 66 that first caught my eye: a sleek clipless desk pen with a shorter-than-usual cap and an extended profile. There were good reviews, and I was interested enough to file the pen away for future consideration. I examined all the models on the Franklin-Christoph website and starred the 66, the pocket …
This is the first time I’ve done a lyrics video without a regular fountain pen. I wanted to experiment with new effects. The paper is (mostly) Yupo, which is 100% polypropylene. It has unexpected interactions with water-based media. Nothing sinks in, because it’s waterproof. Inks used are Dr. Ph Martin’s Bleedproof White, Pilot Blue Black, Franklin-Christoph …
