The colors of shadows.

Sometimes, when the sky is weeping turquoise, you
can forget that the log cabins are fake, the lakes are fake, that you are there
not as a guest but an intruder with a
deadline.

We shot part of a project in
Clearwater, a members-only retreat in Pampanga. We joked the night before we
left that perhaps our hurried memo to God would still arrive, cc: the universe,
to suspend the rain for the sake of the project and our necks.

When
you’re the one with the camera, you’re never in the
picture.

This
makes it easier to see the colors of shadows. On this afternoon, approaching the
curve of this road, this shadow is the deep blue underneath fish scales, the
dark side of the colors
beneath.
